Copenhagen Marathon 2027 lottery results announced

The entry process for the Copenhagen Marathon 2027, part of the European Marathon Classics series, has officially closed after exceptional global demand. All 35,000 race entries were allocated via a lottery system, confirming another year of record participation for one of Europe’s most international marathon events.

From growing demand to full allocation

Interest in the Copenhagen Marathon has reached new levels in recent years, with the 2027 edition attracting 80,937 applications from runners representing more than 160 countries. Demand more than doubled the number of available race entries, reinforcing the event’s status as a key destination within the European marathon calendar.

The lottery system, introduced to replace rapid sell-out registrations, ensured a more balanced and transparent allocation process for participants worldwide.

2027 lottery highlights:

  • 35,000 entries allocated via lottery
  • 80,937 applications received globally
  • Participants from 130+ countries
  • All successful runners notified by email
  • Limited charity and tour operator entries still available
  • Registration phase now closed

Group entries were included in the draw, with applications possible for teams of up to three runners. In such cases, entry was awarded collectively or not at all, maintaining equal conditions across all participants.

European Marathon Classics: a shared running journey

The Copenhagen Marathon is one of eight races forming the European Marathon Classics series, alongside Rome, Madrid, London, Vienna, Warsaw, Frankfurt and Lisbon. The project is built around a shared European running journey, connecting major cities through endurance sport and international participation.

Runners who complete at least five of the eight races receive official “finisher” status and a commemorative medal recognizing their achievement across Europe’s marathon landscape.

International reach and growing appeal

The strongest demand for Copenhagen 2027 came from Denmark, Sweden, the United Kingdom, Norway, Germany, the United States, Italy, Spain, France, and Poland, confirming the race’s broad international appeal.

Organisers highlight that the scale of interest reflects not only the popularity of the event itself, but also the growing strength of the European Marathon Classics as a unified series of premier endurance races.

Following another oversubscribed edition, organisers confirmed that the lottery system will remain in place for future years. The next registration window is planned for May 2027, ensuring continued accessibility and fairness for runners joining the European Marathon Classics journey.

The Copenhagen Marathon 2027 will take place on 9 May 2027.
