Madrid: Secure Your Spot for 2027
Following the record-breaking 2026 edition, the Zurich Rock ‘n’ Roll Running Series Madrid has announced a strategic shift in its registration process for the upcoming race on April 25, 2027.
As one of the eight iconic races within the European Marathon Classics (EMC) series, the Madrid Marathon continues to be a cornerstone for runners aiming to complete the journey through Europe. After more than 8,000 runners were left on the waiting list this year, organizers are introducing a priority-based model to ensure the series' most loyal participants have a clear path to the start line.
2027 Capacity and Phases
The event will maintain its capacity of 47,000 bibs (17,000 for the Marathon and 30,000 for the Half Marathon). To manage the growing international interest, registration will open in three distinct stages:
- Loyalty Phase (May 6 – 10, 2026): Exclusive access for 2026 finishers. This 5-day window provides a guaranteed spot for those looking to return to the Spanish capital.
- Priority Phase (May 11 – 13, 2026): Open to those who were on the 2026 waiting list but did not secure a bib.
- General Phase (From May 14, 2026): Any remaining spots will be released to the general public.
Part of the European Marathon Classics
The European Marathon Classics (EMC) is a prestigious continental series uniting eight historic marathons—Rome, Vienna, London, Madrid, Copenhagen, Warsaw, Lisbon, and Frankfurt. Runners who complete five of these eight legendary races earn the title of European Marathon Classics Finisher and a unique commemorative medal.
As the oldest race in the series (established in 1978), the Zurich Rock ‘n’ Roll Running Series Madrid remains a high-demand destination for those pursuing their EMC e-coins. With its unique blend of live music, a challenging course, and a finish line in the heart of the city, Madrid is a vital stop for any runner participating in the EMC challenge.
